If there was an award for the game which most makes you feel like a superhero, Arkham Asylum would win it hands-down. Never has a beloved comic book character been portrayed so faithfully and proven such fun to control.

Even without the Batman license, though, this would have made an exceptional Action-Adventure. Utilising the Unreal Engine 3 that made Gears of War such an eye-bulging tour-de-force, the caped crusader's exploits in Gotham's prison for the criminally insane couldn't have looked more bleakly beautiful - and the powerful combo of free-flowing combat, shadowy stealth and rewarding exploration delivered a SLAM! WHAM! CRASH! to the rest of summer's game releases.

With the Batman branding on top and some memorable voice acting to match (Mark Hammill's Joker seriously stole the show) this was a true triumph, capitalising on Dark Knight fever AND showing other game makers exactly how to use a popular license properly.

"Batman Arkham Asylum has brilliant graphics especially for the slow motion knockouts. There is loads to do in the main game which can last for hours on end. Even after you complete it there are lots of extra challenge maps to find and all The Riddler trophies in the amazing free roam environment. This game is a must buy and easily a 5 star rating!"

"This game has made many Batman fans very happy indeed! It's a surprisingly psychological game at times. The setting, inmates, the Scarecrow, the Riddler and of course the Joker all do their best to add a little mental strain to Batman as he moves around the compound. The Riddler's riddles are excellent, making you constantly think as you play the game - however, should you not like the puzzle element, it won't hamper your progress through the game if you don't solve the riddles either. The action is brilliant too - the fights and stealth sections seem simple at first but soon get more challenging. This definitely adds something to the Batman canon, so for fans it's essential. Great game."
